Where to go and what to do in the Dominican Republic (4 Day Trip Guide and Itinerary for Samana, Dominican Republic).
Narrowing down my favorite parts of my trip to the Dominican Republic has been proven difficult due to the endless enjoyment I had. For this trip guide and itinerary, let’s talk about where to go and what to do in the area of Samana in the Dominican Republic.

Stay in Las Terrenas, Samana, Dominican Republic.
Located in the beautiful beach town known as Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic, is one of the most beautiful villas I have stayed in. Tucked away in a sea of coconut trees is the beautiful Villa Mata de Mango. The closest beach being only a 10 minute walk, makes it the perfect home for the next 4 days. Do go Chasing Waterfalls (El Limon Waterfall, Samana, Dominican Republic).
Visiting the El Limon Waterfall was the most interesting part of this trip. Let it be known that the trail I took to get to this waterfall was pretty difficult. The hike to get there nearly took me out. Expect about 45 minutes to an hour of uphill/downhill terrain, one way. I literally had to sit down for a few minutes. Despite that, I still recommend going to see the waterfall at least once if you’re fit enough to do so. Go to a local shop and buy some black rubber boots since it gets muddy and slippery on the trail. It was one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have had the pleasure of visiting!

Visit Playa Fronton, Samana, Dominican Republic.
One of the highlights of my trip would be spending the day at Playa Fronton, which is on the eastern tip of the Samana Peninsula. I’ve had pictures of this destination saved in my phone for about 4 years and those pictures didn’t do this gorgeous location any justice! Head down to the La Playita Scuba Center, where Robin and Raquel will take you on a fiberglass boat to Playa Fronton! For an in-depth write up on my visit to Playa Fronton, click here.

Eat food “Anthony Bourdain” Style on a beach in Samana.
While at Playa Fronton, be sure to ask the beauitful people that live on the beach to make an extra plate of food for you. Pay what ever price they ask for, trust me it is worth it! There’s nothing like breaking bread with the people of the land that you’re visiting.

Ride around Las Terrenas, Samana on an ATV.
Another favorite part of my trip to Samana, is the freedom I felt from zipping through the streets of Las Terrenas on an ATV. Head to Lucky Moto to rent an ATV for about USD$45 per day. I highly recommend getting an ATV in addition to your normal car rental to be able to park and stop anywhere with ease. The locals mostly use mopeds and bikes of their own. Your big SUV rental will definitely get in the way and become some what of an annoyance on the narrow streets of Las Terrenas!

Grab a Presidente at any and maybe every bar in Samana.
You can not come to the Dominican Republic and not drink at least one Presidente. Pull up to any bar you lay your eyes, ask for a presidente and sip on it as you enjoy the vibes surrounding you. My favorite bars were Las Cayenas Beach Bar and Kiki’s, both located on Playa Las Ballenas.

Take a morning Dip at Playa Portillo, Las Terrenas, Samana.
At around 7:30 a.m., head to Playa Portillo in Las Terrenas, Samana for a quick morning dip in the ocean to start your last day in the Dominican Republic right!

Catch a Sunset and people watch on Playa Las Ballenas, Las Terrenas, Samana.
My favorite way to end my days in Samana was to grab a comfy chair, order a drink and catch a beautiful Samana sunset while people watching. Just like I mentioned before, my go to spots were Las Cayenas and Kiki’s, both right on the beach.
