Villa Mata de Mango, a Dominican Dream in Las Terrenas.
A regular Thursday for most. But for me, it was the start of a long but unimaginably rewarding journey to a beautiful beach town tucked away in a corner of the Dominican Republic. I quickly locked my phone after my final work email was sent because I peeped that the gate to board my flight to Santo Domingo was right in-front of me. With each step down the jet bridge, months worth of stress and fast paced living dissipated. I was at ease. Too at ease that I slept through the entire 3 hour flight. As the plane descended into the beautiful island of the Dominican Republic, my excitement grew exponentially. It meant that Las Terrenas was on the horizon.

The Journey to Villa Mata de Mango, Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic.
After winding through immigration and exiting the airport, the sounds of laughter, the Spanish language and “Hoja en Blanco” filled the air. I quickly realized it was groups of excited family members and friends awaiting their loved-one’s arrival. The island’s humidity began to beat against my skin. Sweat trailing in places it hasn’t for quite some time. In the corner of my eye, I saw Juan from our car rental company waiting for us. They quickly whisked us away to their office so that we could began our final route to Las Terrenas.
Thus begun our two hour journey to the coastal village town of Las Terrenas. A quick, somewhat chaotic drive through the Santo Domingo city quickly turned into a straight, relaxing drive. The closer we got to Las Terrenas, the more speechless I became. Statuesque Coconut trees lined every crevice, nook and cranny of the Dominican hillsides. Extensive farm land, free roaming animals, bachata music filling the air and rolling mountains became my entertainment for this drive. The drive reminded me of my trip to Guanacaste in Costa Rica.

Roads getting narrower and narrower.
Vast, open roads became narrower and narrower as google maps displayed “arriving soon” on our GPS screen. The roads were lined with “tiendas pequeñas” where mothers, with their children in tow, collected fresh produce probably harvested from the field right behind them.

I was deeply enthralled by the simplistic yet sophisticated lifestyle of this community. Young boys on motos zooming pass us. Pedestrians meandering through moving vehicles. The pulsating heart of the town. Charmed, dazed and excited, our trip officially begun.

As we exited the SUV, a series of stretching quickly ensued as we shook the 2 hour drive off of our bodies. As I completed my last stretch, I spot the infinity pool that was surrounded by towering coconut trees. I have a deep admiration for coconut trees so do believe me when I say that I was in a trance. A “Hola! Bienvenidos!” came from under the mango tree that towered over the entrance of our home for the next few days. Now I know I was in a trance but I know mango trees can’t talk. It was the voice of Sonia, our host.
Luggage still tucked away in the trunk of our car, we somehow found a little bit of energy to follow Sonia on the tour of this beautiful villa.
You can’t stay in a villa named after a mango and not have one.
The Layout.
This three-level Caribbean inspired villa seamlessly blends into the Dominican hillside after carefully curated designs insured the estate didn’t disrupt the land too much. They even built a room where a coconut tree goes straight through it. The villa has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a beautiful kitchen, dining and living area, a beautiful back and front yard and one of the most gorgeous pools I have ever seen.

My favorite area of this home was definitely the outdoor living deck and its infinity pool. On that deck you will find a grill where either the villa’s cook or you can bbq some food! As soon as Sonia wished us an amazing stay and left, I peeled off my traveling clothes and immediately dived into the salt-water pool. If the salt-water pool isn’t enough for you, you can take a brief walk on a private path to a beautiful secluded beach right on the property. That’s enough words for now, I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
